Folsom volleyball wins first SFL match everBy: Matt Long, Sports Editor
Folsom joined the Sierra Foothill League in 2015 and in the first three years in the league, the team had lost all 36 of its league matches.
After an 0-5 start this season, the Bulldogs faced Oak Ridge Monday and got that elusive first SFL victory with a three-game sweep of the Trojans, 25-20, 25-23 and 25-15.
Andrew Bayliss and Cody Bowker each had eight kills to lead the offensive attack, while AJ Raffaelli and Jake Heminway had five apiece. Nathan Felde also had five aces and five blocks, while David Raffaelli had 25 assists, and eight digs. Cameron Rishel scored two points off of his serves and made one reception in the back row.
“It’s nice to get that first league win in 41 matches,” Folsom coach Eric Juline said. “The guys were happy to get the win. Now that we’ve got one, hopefully they will come more frequently.”
While the win was nice, Juline would have liked to see his team play a cleaner game.
“It was harder than I wanted it to be,” Juline said. “We wanted to make them earn their points, and if they didn’t earn it, then we wanted to get the ball back and get the kill. In game two, I think 15 of their 23 points were on our mistakes. We’re not used to playing ahead, but we can’t relax, If we do, it doesn’t take long for the other team to be right there.”
The Bulldogs (1-5 in league, 5-5 overall) play host to SFL-leading Woodcreek on Wednesday before hosting Granite Bay on Monday and Del Oro on April 18.
