Folsom High’s varsity boys’ tennis team opened the Sierra Foothill League season Tuesday with a 9-0 win over Nevada Union.
Playing on their home court, the Bulldogs trounced the undermanned Miners, who only brought 10 players to the match.
Folsom made quick work of its opponent, as the top-two players, Sean Barstow and Andrew Tseng, won their matches with 6-0, 6-0 shutouts. Langston Vu, playing at No. 5, only dropped two games in a 6-1, 6-1 victory, as did No. 3 singles Diego Rodriguez, 6-2, 6-0.
Also winning singles matches for Folsom were Chandu Kathi at No. 4, 6-3, 6-0, and Pranay Jha at No. 6, who had to work a bit harder to win his match, 6-3, 6-4.
Folsom took care of the doubles matches as well. Akash Abraham and Justin Chao won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1, while Kobish Balakrishnan and Mihir Purani were victorious at No. 2, 6-2, 6-2.
“We need to continue to train hard, because all of the other league matches will be tougher,” Folsom coach Rich Klingensmith said.
