After winning their sixth Sac Joaquin section title in eight years a week ago, the Folsom Bulldogs sealed their trip to compete for the state title with a win Friday night. After a hard-fought four quarters, Folsom defeated the Central Grizzlies 54-35 last Friday to clinch the 2017 Nor-Cal Regional title and a trip to the state championship on Friday.

“This win means everything,” said Tanner Ward, Folsom High School linebacker. “From a five-year-old kid playing Pop Warner to this, I can’t explain it.”

Ward was one of many who continued to linger under the lights at Prairie City Stadium following Friday’s game, where players, families and the community of Folsom came together to celebrate the victory that will send the undefeated team to compete for the state title in which they won in 2010 and 2014.

“The Folsom Bulldogs have sure made a habit of running deep into the playoffs this time of year. I try not to get spoiled by the routine excellence that provides folks like my wife and I the bonus of watching December Bulldog football,” said Folsom City Councilman Andy Morin. “Their success on and off the field certainly adds to the positive regional and statewide notoriety of the Folsom community.”

Morin will be among many that will make the trip to California State University, Sacramento on Friday night to watch Folsom play Helix for the CIF-I-AA state title. Folsom is scheduled to play at 8 p.m. in Hornet Stadium.

“I'll be there Friday evening to cheer them on,” Morin said. “I encourage all who can make the short trip to do so and show our Folsom spirit.
