Folsom ice rink opening postponedBy: Bill Sullivan, Associate Publisher
Those looking to lace up the skates and get an early start to celebrating the season upon the ice in Folsom are going to have to hold out just a little bit longer. The Folsom Historic District Association has announced that this Friday’s grand opening of the Historic Folsom Ice Rink has been delayed.
Crews have been working daily to construct this year’s rink, which originally opened in 2008. Despite the daily effort of Brian Jackson and his Studio 33 team, progress is simply, running slightly behind schedule. At this time, they have not announced an official opening date, however, according Judy Collinsworth, executive director of the Folsom Historic District Association assures the community and the area businesses, the big day will come very soon.
“At this time, we don’t have an exact date of the rescheduled opening day. We want to get it perfect,” Collinsworth said. “But we are committed to keeping the community informed on the progress and will announce it in various places as we near that day. We encourage everyone to keep an eye on our Facebook as well as our website, folsomicerink.com or historicfolsom.org where we will post updates as well as details on the Nov. 30 Historic District Tree Lighting that is still scheduled as planned.”
Collinsworth added that anyone that is looking for further information on the postponement or scheduling special events are welcome to contact her directly to discuss the delay. She can be reached through the district website or at 916-985-7452. Despite the delay, they encourage visitors to come enjoy the many businesses in the Historic District.
“You can still experience the warmth and uniqueness of our historic community on that Friday; we invite you to eat, drink and shop in our one-of-a-kind small businesses,” Collinsworth said. “And please continue to check back here/our website/list website address for Historic Folsom Ice Rink information, including an opening date and detains on our free annual Historic District Christmas Tree Lighting celebration, to be held on Friday, Nov. 30, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.”
Once completed, the Historic Folsom Ice Rink will consist of a 7,400-square-foot circular ice rink, complete with falling snow approximately every two hours, according to Collinsworth.
The rink will accommodate up to 250 skaters each session and will welcome thousands during its stint that will conclude on Jan. 21. Ticket prices will be $10 for kids and $12 for adults. To rent skates, there is an additional $3 fee.
