The first round of election results are in for U.S. Representative District 7, and Incumbent Ami Bera has taken the lead over Folsom resident Andrew Grant.
As of press time, the most up-to-date results came in at 1:50 a.m. on Nov. 7 for the seat in congress.
Bera received 52.68 percent of the votes and Grant received 47.32 percent.
While only a quarter of the votes have been counted, Grant said it’s clear Bera has won.
“It’s pretty clear that Ami has won,” Grant said. “I understand that the way it’s sampled across the precincts and it’s not moving.”
This is Grant's first time running for a political office and possibly not his last.
“This is the first time I ran for office. We had below 10 percent of name recognition, and while we didn’t get the national support other races received, we were able to put numbers out,” Grant said. “It was a very well-run and operated campaign.”
When asked if he planned to run again for office in the future, Grant said he wasn’t sure.
“I’m going to focus on the family for now,” he said. “It’s for a later date to decide what I’ll do in politics in the future.”
