Vista del Lago runners brought home three individual gold medals and two team golds from the Bella Vista Bronco Invitational held at the Willow Hills Reservoir course behind Folsom High School on Saturday.
Vista races in the small school division with top teams from around the region including St. Mary’s, Rio Americano, Jesuit, and Placer high schools.
Individual standouts included Abby Carter, who won the 5,000-meter junior varsity race, and Jonah Peterson and Cameron Bader, who won the boys’ and girls’ 3,400-meter frosh-soph races, respectively.
The varsity girls’ team dominated their 5,000-meter race. Anna Vogtmann was third overall, finishing in 19:27. Rachel Burgoyne was eighth (19:53) and Sydnee Kizziar was ninth (20:01). Other runners on the winning team were Maya Barragan (14th, 20:26), Annaka Barragan (15th, 20:27), Natasha Evans (17th, 20:31), Sophie Pelletier (25th, 20:53), Kendall O’Daniel (31st, 21:17), Kathleen Breeze (44th, 21:49), and Arabella Perez (81st, 23:21).
The junior varsity girls’ also won their division with Carter’s win and the support of her teammates’ strong finishes. Grace Markel was seventh in 23:32, followed by Sarah Sanderson (13th, 23:49), Sophie Moore (14th, 23:50), Danielle Bello (18th, 24:16), Sky Kezmoh (25th, 25:12) and Payton Lagomarsino (28th, 25:23).
The top finisher for the JV boys’ team, which placed third, was Ethan Karr, who placed second in 18:16. Stephen Northouse ran 10th in 18:45. Other top-50 finishers include Jake Solak (22nd, 19:26), Brenden Jones (25th, 19:30), James Junaidi (41st, 20:13) and Dennis Xiao (46th, 20:20).
Vista placed fourth in the varsity boys’ division. Jack Hacker’s time of 17:03 was good enough for ninth, while Ben Kizziar finished 16th in 17:28. Other runners included Brad Waterman (19th, 17:37), Nathan Koning (37th, 18:04), Daniel Howell (66th, 18:38), Addison Vaquero (108th, 19:38), and Austin Soelzer (129th, 20:08).
Other finishers in the boys’ fresh-soph race included Elliott Harrison (11th, 12:31), Preston Breeze (50th, 13:25), Joel Kreiser (80th, 14:05), Alec Evans (107th, 14:33) and Lukas Jakubicki (109th, 14:38).
In addition to Bader’s win in the girls’ frosh/soph race, Catie Timm was fourth in 15:05, Brieanna Anderson was sixth (15:08), and Sabrina Terando was 10th (15:31).
