Oak Ridge High’s tennis team avenged a 6-3 loss to Del Oro earlier in the season, topping the Golden Eagles Tuesday by the same 6-3 score.

The Trojans won four of the five matches that went to three sets, and split the four matches that didn’t, as the team reversed the score on Del Oro from the teams’ earlier meeting this season.

“It was a gutsy performance,” Oak Ridge coach Ralph Clark said. “The girls came to play and got a big 6-3 win on their home court. The scores reflect what a battle it was. At one point, we were down 2-1 and the three singles matches were all in third sets. With wins at the top and bottom of our lineup, we had five, three-set matches in between and won four of them.”

Devika Pantpratinidhi at No. 1 singles and Mikayla Myers and Nikki Spies at No. 3 doubles both won their matches in straight sets; Pantpratinidhi winning 6-2, 6-3 and Myers and Spies earning a 6-3, 6-4 win. Oak Ridge’s four other wins were all three-set matches that could have easily gone the other way.

At No. 1 doubles, Caroline Soulier and Lauren Arnould dropped the first set 6-2 before fighting back to take the next two, 6-3, 7-5. Grace Hsueh did the same thing at No. 5 singles. After losing the first set, 7-6, Hsueh won the next two, 6-1, 6-4.

Both Daria Acri at No. 3 singles and Kapri Lyons at No. 4 won their first sets, before losing the second. Acri won the first set 7-5, while Lyons had it a bit easier at 6-2, but both players lost heartbreaking second sets 7-6. The tight loss didn’t get them down, however, as both girls came back to take the third set, 6-4.
