Saturday afternoon swimmers were barking and wagging their tails with pleasure at the Folsom Aquatic Center. Barking? That’s right; it was the 16th annual Bark ‘n’ Splash Bash, which was once again extremely popular.

The annual Bark ‘n’ Splash takes place the day before the staff of the Folsom Aquatic Center drains the pools for annual deep cleaning and sanitation. Therefore, it provides the perfect opportunity for pooches to take the plunge as summer comes to a close.

Saturday afternoon dogs big and small and every size in between were frolicking and splashing in the waters. The event provided just as much fun for pet owners and visitors that enjoyed tossing Frisbees and balls for their four-legged family members to chase.

If swimming with the crowd wasn’t preferred by those dogs that were a bit shy or felt they didn’t look good in their bathing suit, the nearby lawn area was also bustling with activity as many breeds were running and playing and fetching for their owners in the afternoon sun.

“They can run on the grass or play fetch in the water,” said Lesley Miller, of Folsom Parks and Recreation. “It depends what the dogs are into. It is a great way to tire out your dog.”

In addition to the fun times, several vendors were on site with goodies for the dogs and useful product samples for their humans.

“This about the 11th time we have come to this event; it never ceases to disappoint,” said Bob Campbell, owner of sBarkles in Folsom, a long-time vendor and supporter of the event. “You have to be here to truly experience this. Look at all these happy dogs running around; I think they all could pretty much just take over the world right now.”

In addition to the fun and the vendors, Folsom Animal Services were on site offering vaccinations for residents, licensing and microchip implants if desired.
