Vista del Lago rebounded from a loss at Christian Brothers earlier in the week with a resounding 60-22 victory at Casa Roble High in Orangevale on Friday night.

Sophomore Lindsey Moody notched her third straight double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds and freshman Mia Perez added 14 points to lead a well-balanced Eagle attack.

The Lady Eagles broke out with a 10-0 run in the first quarter and never looked back. They played with patience, discipline, unselfishness and most importantly, effort.

“It wasn’t just certain people; everyone contributed,” said senior point guard Mikayla Totushek, whose quarterbacking skills shined. Despite not taking her first shot attempts with a pair of free throws with 1:14 left in the game, Totushek led all players with five assists and four steals.

Tara Singh, the other senior in the starting lineup, chipped in seven points, five boards and three steals.

“The team chemistry has been great and everyone is happy that we all got to score,” said Singh. “I think we’re going to get somewhere this season. We can still play better.”

The Lady Eagles are in the midst of a five-game road stretch in which they’ll cover all of their away games in succession before returning home for the final four games of the regular season.

Coach Marty Benjamin has had his girls scrimmaging with the Vista boys over the past few weeks to help get the Lady Eagles up to speed and recognize important situations.

“We’re shooting for the boys to make us better and to the eye, it looks like it’s helping,” said Benjamin.

“Scrimmaging against them has taught us to find where the open looks are,” echoed Singh.

Occasionally, the girls will get one over on the boys.

“The boys are faster and stronger so it’s fun to knock some of them down every once in a while. It definitely makes you feel good,” said Totushek.

Vista (15-5, 2-1 CAL) opened up league play with a 49-31 victory at home over El Camino before falling to Christian Brothers 59-50 in the first of its five-game road stint. The Lady Eagles will travel to Mira Loma on Wednesday, Rio Americano on Friday and El Camino on Jan. 31 before they host another league game when Christian Brothers comes to the Eagles’ Nest on Feb. 2.
