Once again, another year has come and gone. Another year of chasing news and feature stories to bring to you, the community. As your community newspaper, we strive to bring you the news you can’t get elsewhere about your community.

While the bad news finds its way to us, it is the good and unique news that we work hard to bring you weekly to run alongside those unfortunate reports of “bad” news that finds its way to the media.

Locally, it was a great year when it came to all types news in our immediate region. In this issue of the Folsom Telegraph you will find the second segment of a two-part feature that highlights the most popular stories of 2018. Additionally, this issue contains our 2018 pictures of the year for your enjoyment as well.

Throughout the past year, the Telegraph has continued its mission of covering the news in your community, about your community. Once again, our stories and photos were produced by a staff that is talented and very engaged in their local community, which is essential for a community newspaper of this type.

In 2018, the Telegraph reached news levels when came to being an award winning newspaper. For the first time in decades, this newspaper was nominated for 7-different areas by California Newspaper Publishers Association.

In the end, this publication took home honors in feature writing, investigative reporting, general news, photojournalism and others. We were also named a top five newspaper in our category for overall excellence statewide. This all was possible due to the editorial talents of our staff Matt Long and Rachel Zirin and all of our great contributors. Advertising makes a newspaper thrive as well and in 2018, the many sections we produced would not have been successful without the hard work of our passionate sales team of Debbrah Campbell and Christina Moneypenny.

Throughout the year, we brought you stories of great philanthropy taking place in our community. We continued to take you to places that you don’t otherwise see, such as behind the walls of Folsom State Prison, behind the scenes of our local election campaigns and candidates. We also brought you up to date election night coverage like never before and much more.

While a weekly newspaper cannot always beat the mainstream media to the headlines, it does happen here quite frequently. When we aren’t the first to bring you the story, I assure you we bring you the most accurate and unique perspective on everything we cover. With all of our in-depth stories, we brought you strong photography to accompany it and dynamic page layouts.

In addition to news, our sports coverage this year was superior once again, and we will continue to bring you the best local high school sports news in a region where some area newspapers are choosing to discontinue this important section of a community newspaper.

In 2018, we stepped up to give the readers of the Telegraph the newspaper every community deserves. We became heavily engaged in the community in which we serve in the form of participation of numerous events and sponsorship of uncountable projects, events and more. In 2019 we will strive to continue to serve the community in a fashion any community newspaper should.
